Delete from inside the app
- Open RailBuzz.
- Tap the menu (☰) in the top-right corner.
- Choose 🗑️ Delete Account.
- Tick I understand this cannot be undone, then tap Delete forever.
Your account and everything in it disappears immediately. Your profile is gone, your messages vanish from every chat room at once, and you cannot sign in again. If you last signed in more than a few minutes ago, the app asks you to verify your mobile number once more, or to sign in with Google again if your account has no number, to remove the sign-in itself.
For three days afterwards we keep a copy that only our safety team can reach, then it is erased permanently and automatically. Nobody using RailBuzz can see any of it during that time. Why we do this is explained under “The three-day safety hold” below.
Delete by email
If you cannot open the app, email support@railbuzz.in from any address, giving the mobile number registered to the account, or its Google email address if it has no number. We verify ownership by sending a one-time code to that number or address, then delete the account within 30 days.
What is deleted
Erased the moment you confirm:
- Your name and email address
- Your room membership history and saved preferences
- Passengers you have blocked
- Your help requests
- Your likes and dislikes
- The trains you follow
- The record of your number's verification for live chat
- Your contribution score, its daily figures, and the copies of your messages kept for it — including anything you wrote that was kept beside another passenger’s message
- Your phone’s notification token
Hidden from everyone the moment you confirm, and erased after three days:
- Your profile and passenger alias
- Every message you have posted in train chat rooms
- Reports you have filed
- Your feedback submissions
- Your mobile number and the login attached to it
- The record of when you used the AI assistant and live train lookups
Usage statistics are kept, but the link to you is removed, so they can no longer be traced back to your account.
Support requests you made are kept as a record, because the law expects us to show that complaints are handled. After three days the words you wrote and any email address you gave are removed; what remains says only that a request of that kind was made and how it was handled.
What is kept, and why
The three-day safety hold
Until recently, deleting your account erased your messages instantly. That sounds like the strongest possible privacy protection, and for almost everyone it is. But it also meant that somebody who had just threatened or harassed another passenger could destroy the proof with one tap — faster than the person they targeted could report it.
So a deleted account is now held for three days before it is erased for good. During those three days nothing is visible to anyone using RailBuzz: not your messages, not your profile, not your alias. Only our safety team can reach it, and only to deal with a report or a lawful request from the police or a government authority.
Three days is not an arbitrary figure. It is the same period our safety team can already look back over for every passenger, whether or not they have deleted anything. Deleting your account should not give you a shorter window than staying would have — and it should not give you a longer one either.
After three days it is erased automatically. Nobody has to remember to do it.
You cannot sign up again with the same number for three days
For the same three days, that mobile number cannot create a new RailBuzz account. The app will tell you how long is left. Without this, deleting an account would simply be a way to abandon a record and start again with a clean one two minutes later, which would make the hold pointless.
We store a one-way scrambled form of the number to do this, never the number itself, and it is the only thing that remains after the three days are up.
If you deleted your account by mistake and need it sooner, write to support@railbuzz.in.
Reports other passengers filed about you
These are safety records rather than your own content, and they include a copy of the reported message. If deleting an account erased them, anyone could remove the evidence of harassment simply by signing up again. The record no longer names or links to you.
If your account was blocked from posting when you deleted it
We keep a one-way scrambled form of your phone number until that block would have expired — which can be longer than the three days above. This is the only way to stop a block being avoided by deleting the account and signing up again with the same number. We do not keep the number itself, and the record is removed once the block lapses.
If you changed your mobile number
The record of each change — when it happened, which phone made it, and the old and new numbers in one-way scrambled form — is kept for a year after the change, even if you delete your account sooner. Otherwise changing number and then deleting the account would be a way to escape a chat block. We do not keep the numbers themselves.
How long it takes
Deletion from the app is immediate and nobody using RailBuzz can see anything of yours from that moment. The safety copy is erased after three days. Reported incidents are kept for 90 days, as described above. Backups are overwritten on a rolling 30-day cycle, so any residual copies are gone within 30 days.
